DIVORCE - UNCONTESTED
What is an Uncontested Divorce
An uncontested divorce is one in which both spouses agree on how to divide assets and debts, decide on support amounts, and work out parenting issues. Once the spouses reach those agreements, they can complete their divorce paperwork and get a judgment of divorce, often without even having to go to court.
Why Choose an Uncontested Divorce?
Cost
An uncontested divorce costs much less than a court battle or even a negotiated solution that relies on lawyers to do the negotiating.
Time and Efficiency
To obtain a divorce in Georgia, one of the spouses must be a resident of the state for six months prior to filing for divorce. There is also a waiting period. However, Georgia's waiting period is just 31 days. Depending on how long it takes you to work out the details of a settlement, getting a divorce will be a very quick and efficient procedure.
